Nene Thomas
Nene Thomas has been drawing and painting throughout her life, beginning her professional career in 1994 when she was invited by Wizards of the Coast to create artwork for the collectible card game Magic: The Gathering. She continued working with Wizards of the Coast and other collectible card game companies for several years before choosing to leave contract art behind and focus on creating artwork based on her own ideas and imagination.
Over time, Nene established herself in the world of faery and fantasy art, exhibiting and selling her work at shows across the United States and online. Her artwork has since appeared on a wide variety of products and reached audiences around the world.
For the first ten years of her professional career, Nene worked exclusively in watercolor. In 2004, she became increasingly interested in digital art and began experimenting with a drawing tablet, Corel Painter, and Adobe Photoshop. Her earliest digital pieces combined watercolor with digital elements, before she eventually transitioned to creating fully digital works.
Much of Nene’s artistic inspiration comes from The Zarryiostrom, an epic fantasy story she has been developing since high school. Created together with her husband, writer Steven Plagman, the series has become one of her most personal creative projects. Its characters and fantasy world provide the inspiration for many of Nene’s paintings, closely connecting her visual art with storytelling and world-building.
