Matteo Colombo
Matteo Colombo was born in Milan, Italy, in 1973 with two incurable conditions: a love of photography and a serious case of wanderlust. For a while he tried to ignore both. He earned a degree in electrical engineering and settled into a steady 9-to-5 job, but he and the desk never really got along. So one day he quit, picked up a camera, and started traveling. He never looked back.
Since then, Matteo has photographed more than fifty countries, driven by a simple goal: to convey the beauty, humanity, and charm of the wonderful world we live in. His images range from sweeping landscapes and timeless cities to intimate portraits of the people he meets along the way. As a certified drone pilot, he also captures the world from above, because sometimes the best angle is the one you can’t reach on foot.
His work has appeared on the cover of National Geographic fourteen times and has been featured by Emirates, British Airways, Lonely Planet, Viking Cruises, and The Sunday Times Travel Magazine, among many others. Today he licenses his images worldwide and sells them as fine art prints.
Matteo’s photographs are known for their clarity, vibrant colors, and atmospheric mood. He believes in making the most of available light and in the power of nature over the power of Photoshop: his images are carefully refined, but always faithful to the scene he stood in front of. He takes his images seriously, and himself considerably less so.
Though Italy will always be home, Matteo likes to say his real address is a suitcase. When he isn’t on the road, you’ll probably find him planning the next journey, espresso in hand. No sugar.
